Seeing and painting the landscape in unique ways. Join internationally known award winning painter and one of Plein Air Painters of America’s newest members, Lorenzo Chavez, for an inspiring and insightful landscape painting workshop, focusing on NEW concepts for Plein air and studio painting. Learn to visualize the landscape in unique and exciting new ways while also honoring the traditions of the past. Lorenzo is well known for his patience and articulate lessons that will awaken your artistic vision. His workshops utilize the visual approaches of shape, value, edges, lines, and color. The workshop will offer plenty of individual attention, daily demos, and group discussions in relaxed and inspiring settings. Pastels and oil are encouraged.

Pastel Supply List

Please bring landscape reference photos, preferably printed rather than electronic

  • Pastels – Largest assortment of colors possible; Rembrant pastels are a fine pastel to begin with; conte crayons, earth tones. A great pastel box for working in the field is the Heilman box.
  • Paper – Bring your favorite pastel surface. I enjoy using Canson Moonstone and UArt 400 grit sanded pastel paper. Cut into approximately 11″ x 14″, 9″ x 12′, 8″ x 10″ – to fit small drawing board.
  • Drawing Board – Bring a larger size drawing board for 12″ x 16″ – 16″ x 20″ sized sheets of pastel paper.
  • Small sketchbook – 8 1/2″ x 11″. Bring a black broad tip marker.
  • Masking Tape – 1″ – Scotch brand

Oil Painting Supplies

This is a list of the oil painting equipment I have come to prefer. I have found that buying quality products have had a big impact on my work bot in terms of ease of handling and saving money over the years.

Easels (your choice of)

  1. Permanent Red Medium – Rembrandt
  2. Alizarian Crimson
  3. Cad Yellow Deep
  4. Lemon Yellow
  5. Ultramarine Deep
  6. Cobalt Blue
  7. Ciridian
  8. Titanium While – M. Graham
  9. Burnt Sienna – Earth color
  10. Yellow Ocher

Canvas Panals – Please bring 2-3 panels per day in your choice of sized 8×10, 9×12, 10×12, 11×14. We will be doing small studies on the canvas panels. For the studio work bring your choice of sizes in panels or stretched canvas
