If you already have w/c supplies you need not purchase anything but options
Watercolors – Paint in tubes (don’t clean out your old paint.) Stan uses mostly Grahams
- Paynes Gray or Lamp Black
- Strong red, yellow and blue
- For instance: Phthalocyanine Blue (red shade), Quinacridone Red or Rose, Hansa or Azo Yellow
- A strong purple, green and orange.
- Titanium white
Paper – 2 (22” x 30”) sheets 140# Arches cold or hot press. Water color blocks or 300# is also fine. No smaller than 11 x 14 (prefer Arches)
Palette with large areas to mix wet paint
Watercolor Brushes, Synthetic, or natural bristle
- 1” Flat watercolor brush
- 2. ½” Flat or round Med. (#8 – 15)
- Small round (#5-7)
- If you have brushes don’t buy new ones
Subject Photos
You may bring pictures that you would like to paint. Stan encourages you to bring photos even if you decide not to paint them. He would like to see what your painting goals might be. Black and white photos are best enlarged to 8” x 10”. Don’t draw out your painting beforehand.
Sketch paper or scrap watercolor paper is good.
Watercolor Board to tape your painting to, soft plywood or pine board, Gator board, Mahogany plywood; ¼” to ½” is plenty thick No bigger than 24”x 30”.

Wet Media or Prepared Acetate (to place over painting and paint corrections onto acetate.
