Doug Boomer
Artist Biography
Spending 50 plus years in California’s central Sierra Mountains and the last 6 years in the Idaho mountains along the Clearwater River, Mr. Boomer has everything you would want as a landscape painter. But he doesn’t stop there. He also includes many other subjects in his paintings, from still life’s, animals, old farm equipment, portraits, and so on.
He gives credit to the many artists that he has taken classes or workshops from. Those include Gerome Grimmer, Donald “Putt” Putman, Charlene Kostiw, Stan Miller, and Gary Langdon.
He is a member various art organizations including “Yosemite Sierra Artists”, the “Salmon River Art Guild”, the “Central Idaho Art Association”, and the “Valley Art Center” of Clarkston Washington.
Whether he is painting in watercolor, acrylic or oil, he tries to make a statement that has some meaning that the viewer is touched by. This is the hard part. Rather than just recording an object or scene, he tries to get it to ‘hit home’ in a very personal way.
As a painter, he sees the landscape for its potential as a story of a meaningful experience. The difficulty is defining what was special about it for him and then finding a way to paint the scene in such a way as to convey what he was seeing and feeling. He thinks that over the years he has come to understand more fully what those qualities were and what they mean to him.
